Photoshopping

June 11, 2008

I have been making little narcissistic posters for myself; graphics surrouding my full name in a cool font in photoshop. They make be feel like either a band, a movie, or someone really important. Either way, whoo hoo.

I use brushes in photoshop, they have a nice, rough feel to them. I feel like a big-shot designer, at least until I realize that real PSers use brushes they themselves create.

Odd

October 29, 2007

I don’t know how this works, but I can imagine it takes your IP adress and scans it for information. “http://artemisfowl.fangathering.com/Graphics/signatures/dynamic/foaly.png” Is from an Artemis Fowl Fansite, and it has some fancy code to analyze your signature. Weird.

I reccomend this video

for anyone who likes the Beatles and/or Yellow Submarine and/or Oasis and/or 2D graphics.

Free fonts! http://flat-it.com/Freewares.php has a great font called Wood Stamp, it uses ligatures to analyze your letters and overlap them.

Inversely Proportional

October 19, 2007

I have discovered that willingness to play sports in the rain is inversely proportional to sanity.

Leopard is amazing. I don’t have it yet, it’s not even out, but I’ve seen the ads. For comparison, I saw Word 2007 for the first time today, and apart from the ribbon, there was nothing particularly spectacular, not compared to iWork ‘08.

They say Douglas Adams is to Science Fiction as Terry Pratchet is to Fantasy, and as from today, I can back that statement up. Today I have begun Small Gods, a story about a god trapped inside a turtle with no believers. The structure of political commentary mixed with humor is similar to that of Douglas Adams.

Also recently, I have read the entire Space Odyssey series. Very good, unrecommended for anyone who can’t bear the illegible names of modern sci-fi/fantasy.

So why am I starting this again?

October 16, 2007

Oh, right, I wanted to. An suspicious lack of places to be cynical on has provided me with the urge – flanked by readers – to start blogging again.

A lot’s changed since last year. I have a new computer, an Intel iMac with iSight (don’t worry, no pictures). I have a whole lot more work, so expect more blogging due to increased procrastination. I have also learned to play Ukelele.

Ukelele

Also, I have written a number of new songs.

I apologize for the slow load time. Many more on the way.

Many more songs, I mean. Although many more posts as well.

Have you ever just walked into something? I don’t mean a trap, or a pit, or a wooden pole, (though I have done that as well), but just anything. Something you’ve lived with for years, and you misestimated its distance from your head. Ever happened?

Apple

August 5, 2007

I am expecting some sort of discount on Macs soon, being nearly September and all. My old Laptop crashed, so I’ve been using someone else’s. When Fake Steve Jobs says new models approach, you can be sure they are… he’s nearly always right.

In other news, I recently discovered the meaning of serendipity. Well, not the definition, but where it came from. Serendipity is the act of finding something while looking for something else. Oddly enough, I discovered the word serendipitously.  Most things are discovered that way in dictionaries.

The word Serendipity is from the old Sri Lankan Play, the three princes of Serendip. Each of these three princes discovered something serendipitously. Kind of like saying Bostoners do things Bostonly.

Rules 2

May 20, 2007

Five rules for Restaurant owners.

5. Taste all of your food to make sure it’s edible.
4. Try to have tissues in the kitchens.
3. Be sure that most of your customers survive.
2. Hire sane waiters.
1. Make sure your bathroom stalls have locks. (This applies to anyone who has bathroom stalls under their control.)

Word 2007 (Microsoft Office 12) has a new feature called the ribbon.
Ribbon

I mean, I like it, but 2008 for Mac
Mac
looks just like Pages.
plus the Triskaidekaphobia.

DVR

May 13, 2007

Today I hooked up my recently purchased DVR set from Time Warner Cable. I know that there have been bad reviews, but so far it’s worked fantastically, and apart from the screw-ups at my end, it’s a brilliant idea put top action. I somehow was able to balance the DVR set on top of an equal-sized VCR/DVD player on top of a TV set. The new remote has three new buttons.
DVR
The one on the left is an Instant Replay button. It goes back in time about three seconds to show you it again.
The one in the middle is the List button. It shows you a list of what you’ve recorded, what you will record, and a series manager to show you what groups of shows you’re recording.
The one on the right is the Live button. It switched back to live TV from wherever you are.

Then there’s the Picture in Picture feature
PIP

Etc, etc. I am very pleased.

I don’t understand some people. Common phrases in IMing nowadays include lol, rotfl, lmao, etc… but they’re being thrown around. Are you really on the floor laughing, or are you just mildly amused? Aren’t all laughs out loud? Otherwise they’re just chuckles, or smirks. I think there should be an official IMing dictionary.lol : Laughing out loud : Aren’t all laughs out loud? Can’t things just be funny?rotfl : Rolling on the floor laughing : No, how many people can roll on the floor and type at the same time?lmao : Laughing my arse off : That’s got to hurt.gtg : Got to go : This is understood by saying bye.bb : Bye bye : This is understood by signing off.nm : Not much / Never mind : This always confuses me. I use Never Mind, but others don’t. One or the other, pick one already!np : No problem : How often is this expression used that we actually have an expression for it?* : General exclamation : Way! overused. *yay* i’m so happy!!!. They look like mouse ears. Don’t use them.If bloggers may have to abide by some kind of code, then IMers must follow these rules.

Vista 2

April 10, 2007

Ridiculous.(Warning: Following Post may contain extreme hatred of Windows Vista. If you do not wish to bear this, please skip this post. Thank you)Ridiculous is the only word I can think of to describe Vista properly. To quote UHF, “They’re so stupid! Stupid!Today I went to an electronics store. They had nearly 40 laptops of different shapes and sizes lined up, all running the new Windows Vista. The first new thing I noticed was the gadgets. At first sight, the widgets/gadgets look exactly the same. The Apple Stickies is the same as the Windows Notes.

Windows
Now guess which came first? Not Windows, that’s for sure. Even worse was the fact that half the widgets just didn’t work. There was no internet connection. On Apple, when there’s no internet connection, Dashboard shows a ” “. Windows Sidebar shows a puzzling “-” on every widget.
–:– –_, _ 20–

doesn’t really help. Then there was a camera built in (iSight), a windows switcher (Exposé), slight’s transparent windows and a glossy feeling (Aqua), and even a funny little thing called Word. Now, Word was stupid because I couldn’t use it without an internet connection. You have to sign up for a trail, and get a key. Then if you like it, you get a key to buy it. I couldn’t even use it.Some of the computers had crashed and I couldn’t even log in. In the lower right-hand corner, there was a menu. Shut Down, Restart, Sleep, and… Hibernate? What the heck?Apperently is doesn’t draw power from the socket when hibernating… it’s for people who are too lazy to unplug it or just turn it off.Wait, I’m not done yet…And that’s just the software issues. The trackpads barely worked. There was a touch-screen little version (Sound familiar? Touch-screen, anyone?) but the feature barely worked. I had to use my fingernail just to move the mouse, let alone click. Then the new screensaver – bubbles! Bubbles! BUBBLES!I mean, come on…Pathetic. Here’s to gladly awaiting the release of Leopard!(Yes, I just saw UHF and really enjoyed it. Top ten!)
