Guns don’t kill people. Bullets do.

March 10, 2008

Guns don’t kill people. Bullets do. I still cannot figure out how to make a new line on this entry system. A lot of music is what I call ‘white’. This can be interpreted as white noise mostly, or silence mostly. A lot of indie music especially is mostly empty noise. I think that’s better than blaring guitars and synths.

Rhythm

March 8, 2008

Why is most music in binary or ternary beats? Is it the symmetrical duality of the body? Why dosen’t music have five parts, like fingers? The thumb isn’t a finger. Four fingers. Four-Four music. Three-three music because of the heart beat. Thump-thump-     -thump-thump-     thump-thump. Etcetera.  Hate this weather. Raining like a corporate waterfall outside, and dry heat like a sauna inside.

They Might Be Giants

March 1, 2008

My favorite band. Recently I saw them live in NYC, but even more recently – so recently it hasn’t happened yet – I will have been seeing Gigantic. It is a movie about They Might Be Giants. I use Wiretap Pro – courtesy of MacHeist – to listen to/download TMBG songs off YouTube. It’s really easy. Lots of work this weekend.

Hooks are easy. Music is very hard.

February 22, 2008

  • Hooks. In any popular song, there is a hook. Either a lyrical hook or a musical one. Many songs are really bad, but have great hooks, so people listen to them over and over and over. A song composed entirely of hooks is called hip-hop. Each section, by itself, is addictive, but when put together, it becomes mind-numbing. The rest of the song is supposed to be made of chords, people. Not other drum beats.
  •  Greek. I am learning Greek. or ηλλενικα. Declensions are the easiest. Vocab, on the other hand, is hard. Kinda the opposite of Latin.

Albums

January 27, 2008

It’s always nice when you gain access to an album of a band you already know. Sometimes you buy it, sometimes, you get it free. Either way, it’s always nice to experience a whole style that you had only guessed at via a few songs previously. I recently got whole albums by Live and Oasis.

Odd

October 29, 2007

I don’t know how this works, but I can imagine it takes your IP adress and scans it for information. “http://artemisfowl.fangathering.com/Graphics/signatures/dynamic/foaly.png” Is from an Artemis Fowl Fansite, and it has some fancy code to analyze your signature. Weird.

I reccomend this video

for anyone who likes the Beatles and/or Yellow Submarine and/or Oasis and/or 2D graphics.

Free fonts! http://flat-it.com/Freewares.php has a great font called Wood Stamp, it uses ligatures to analyze your letters and overlap them.

Ahhh! The Police!

October 18, 2007

The more I think about it, Every Breath you Take by The Police is quite a creepy song.

Plus the video, it’s altogether odd.

I tried playing a sport I haven’t played in a while today: Soccer. I gave up on it a few years ago, and when I played, I discovered that I hadn’t lost any skill. That isn’t saying much, though, I was pretty bad to begin with. I’ve always wanted to – head it? Is that what it’s called? Because when you do it, it’s a header, so do you head the ball? I think so. I’ve always wanted to head a ball straight on and have it fly straight foward. It rarely flies up, and when I can actually reach it, it always goes in some obscure direction, never foward. Ahh well.

So why am I starting this again?

October 16, 2007

Oh, right, I wanted to. An suspicious lack of places to be cynical on has provided me with the urge – flanked by readers – to start blogging again.

A lot’s changed since last year. I have a new computer, an Intel iMac with iSight (don’t worry, no pictures). I have a whole lot more work, so expect more blogging due to increased procrastination. I have also learned to play Ukelele.

Ukelele

Also, I have written a number of new songs.

I apologize for the slow load time. Many more on the way.

Many more songs, I mean. Although many more posts as well.

Have you ever just walked into something? I don’t mean a trap, or a pit, or a wooden pole, (though I have done that as well), but just anything. Something you’ve lived with for years, and you misestimated its distance from your head. Ever happened?

Silly

Silly
Oh, wow.

I finally found a video of one of TMBG’s new songs:

Withered Hope

And their Malcom in the Middle theme song, which I really like.

Else

May 22, 2007

Today I sampled The Else on the iTunes Music Store and I give it a very high review. Go and listen to it. They also have a set of Venue Songs that I recommend.

Using the same random experimentation as yesterday, I’ve created a whole new set of cool spinny things. Click for full.Rotation

I’ve been working on a new routine involving BASE jumping and Fear Factor. I’ll post it when I’ve gotten all the kinks worked out. I might need to start carrying around a notebook for sudden flashes of ideas. They happen all the time and then I forget them. One happened earlier today but I can’t remember what it was. I can remember where I was, what I was doing, and even what time it was, but not it. Isn’t that weird?
