I’ve taken a short (long) hiatus. It felt good not to have an underlying responsibility to a website, but I feel liek I ought to – it’s fun.
Did you know that the Berserks were a group of Vikings who would go into battle naked? It explains the word origin. I wonder who went trawling through a history book looking for people to be made into terms.
Being made into terms – is that a word? Termify? Termitize? Etymonize? Get to work on that, Linguists.

Speaking of SF having Human Emotion, read Childhood’s End by Arthur C. Clarke. Awesome.

Taking a Greek class this summer. Will I be the first one to make the joke: It’s all greek to me?

Was watching Music Man recently. Wonder how difficult it would be to make a modern adaptation: Same idea, same music, slightly updated lyrics (what scared town-folk nowadays?) and better video quality. Get on it, guys.

Apparently the word Influenza means ‘influence’ from the gods/stars. Ancients believed that if you got sick, the stars (or gods) were mad at you. I wonder how long it’d take for someone to reverse-engineer that to make a joke out of it? i.e: ‘Gee whiz, that guy’s got so much influence, he must have the flu!’ Not a good joke, but inevitably all the same.
Damn. I just made the joke.

Was reading a Doctor Who book recently. A passage described a small child hiding under the covers of their bed from its parents. The passage said that the child actually wanted to be found. (It then went on to add all kinds of flap-doodle, like [and held and loved]) but I think the basic idea is right. Weird how SF books have such insight into human emotion.

Why do doctors practice medicine? Don’t you want them to be perfect by the time they operate on you?

A couple making out exchanged chewed gum in front of me on the bus today. As cute as couples may be, I nearly vomited.
